A turmoil broke out between protesters and police during a protest against the bill that includes a tax increase in order to close the government’s budget deficit in Kenya, yesterday. As a result of the turmoil, 1 person died, 200 people were injured, and 100 people were detained.
It was stated in a joint statement by Amnesty International and the Kenya Medical Association that spent cartridges were found at the scene, which means that real bullets were used.
Kenyan Finance Minister Njuguna Ndung states that with the bill, they aim to revitalize the economy, generate an additional 346.7 billion Kenyan Shillings income and alleviate the debt.
