1 died in a fire at petrochemical plant in Shanghai

Explosions occurred at around 04:30 am local time at the facility of Sinopec Shanghai petrochemical company, which is affiliated to the state-owned oil and natural gas company Sinopec Group, located in the Jinshan district, China. A large number of firefighters were dispatched to the scene. While flames and dense smoke were rising from the facility, the driver of a transport vehicle inside the facility died in the fire and 1 company employee injured. Locals reported that they were woken up by the sound of an explosion, and a sharp odor filled the streets with the fire. In the Chinese media, it’s been reported that the fire broke out in the ethylene glycol producing section of the facility. While the flames were brought under control hours later, the cause of the fire is being investigated.
