10 Dead after Landslide Occurs on Thai Holiday Resort Island

Landslides triggered by monsoon rains caused the deaths of 10 people, 2 of whom were Russian citizens, in the Karon district of Thailand’s famous holiday resort of Phuket at 03:30 local time yesterday. Twenty people were reportedly injured and their condition was stated as non life threatening.

Phuket Deputy Governor Srattha Thongkam announced that the towns of Karon, Rawai and Chalong, where the landslides occurred, have been declared a “disaster area” and stated that their priority is to investigate whether there are people buried under the ground in the Karon region.
