160 Pilot Whales Wash Ashore in Australia

Approximately 160 pilot whales washed ashore for an unknown reason on Dunsborough beach, 285 kilometers south of Perth, the capital of Australia’s Western Australia state. Officials reported that 28 of the whales died.

“Pilot whale strandings usually don’t end well. We end up with a lot of our animals dying,” said District Wildlife Officer Pia Courtis.

Scientists think that the whales might have been trapped in the shallow waters near the beach while following the lead whale.
