An explosion occurred in a 4-storey building that being renovated in the Spanish capital city of Madrid. Madrid Mayor Jose Luis Martinez Almeida announced that 17 people were injured in the explosion and 1 of the injured was in serious condition. Almeida explained that the cause of the explosion hasn’t been determined yet. “Fire crews are working to determine if there are more people inside the building,” Almeida said.
Madrid Emergency Service Spokesperson Gema Martin stated that the school near the building where the explosion took place didn’t take damage, so there is no need to evacuate the children. Authorities also announced that a field hospital was established in the area and that the emergency response teams have treated 6 injured people.
