20 Pilot Whales Strand on New Zealand Coast

At least 20 pilot whales have stranded on the Ngawi coast near Cape Palliser on New Zealand’s North Island. The Department of Conservation said it was working with local Maori communities and marine rescue group Project Jonah to save the animals. Project Jonah reported that four whales were still alive as rescue teams worked to return them to the water. The cause of the stranding remains unknown, while similar incidents are relatively common in New Zealand and neighboring Australia.
