2021 nobel prize in literature goes to Tanzanian-born author Abdulrazak Gurnah

The novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah has been awarded with Nobel Prize in Literature in 2021 “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents”.

Gurnah was born in 1948 and grew up on the Indian Ocean island of Zanzibar before fleeing to England as a refugee in the late 1960s. He has ten novels and a collection of short stories to his credit. The theme of the refugee’s disruption embodies his work.
