22 died in an hotel explosion in Kuba

On May 6, an explosion occurred at the historic Saratoga Hotel in Kuban capital city of Havana. The Cuban Presidency reported that 22 people died in the violent explosion that occurred as a result of the gas leak, and at least 70 people were hospitalized. It’s also reported that 1 pregnant woman and 1 child were among the dead. While a great damage occurred in the hotel after the explosion, the search and rescue efforts for the people who were under the rubble still continues.

In addition to that, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel made a statement regarding the incident while leaving Calixto Garcia Hospital where most of the injured were treated. “This is not a bomb or an attack, it’s an unfortunate accident,” Diaz-Canel said. Cuban Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Garcia said that according to preliminary information, no foreigners were killed or injured in the explosion.
