226 Armenians Detained in Protests after Villages Returned to Azerbaijan

The return of 4 occupied villages to Azerbaijan in triggered protests in Armenia. Following the rally held in the capital Yerevan yesterday upon the call of the opposition, demonstrators took to the streets this morning. The demonstrators, who blocked the roads to the capital, demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. A total of 226 people, including some opposition politicians, were detained following the clashes that occurred as tensions rose between the demonstrators and the police.

Armenia returned the Baghanis Ayrum, Lower Voskepar, Dağ Qızılhacılı and Kheyrimli villages of Gazakh district, which were occupied during the 1st Karabakh War, to Azerbaijan on May 24.
