A 276-kilogram bluefin tuna caught in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, was sold for 207 million yen (about $1.3 million) at the traditional New Year’s fish auction event at the Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan, where fishermen competed fiercely to sell tuna caught around the world for the highest price. The bid was recorded as the second highest price ever sold since data began to be kept in the area in 1999.
A 278-pound bluefin tuna caught off the coast of Aomori Prefecture sold for a record 333.6 million yen (about $2.1 million) at a fish auction in 2019.
