The Ugandan separatist group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), affiliated with the terrorist organization Daesh, attacked the Lhubirira secondary school in the town of Mpondwe. After setting the dormitory of the school on fire, the attackers shot students attacked them with machetes. A total of 41 people, 38 of whom were students, lost their lives and several were kidnapped. The Ugandan army launched a search operation to catch the attackers who fled towards Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and rescue the kidnapped people.
