A simultaneous historical artifact smuggling operation was carried out by Turkish Gendarmerie to 2 different addresses in Mersin, Turkey. In the statement made by the Mersin Provincial Gendarmerie Command, it’s been stated that the Gendarmerie teams identified 3 people who were smuggling historical artifacts and put the suspects under tracking. Thereupon, the teams launched simultaneous operations on the individuals who were looking for customers to sell the historical artifacts in their possession.
During the operation carried out to addresses in the Akdeniz and Tarsus districts in Mersin, 3 people were taken into custody, and 5.547 historical coins and a leather manuscript which are considered to be belong to the Ottoman, Byzantine and Roman periods, were seized. The seized historical artifacts were handed over to the Museum Directorate for their examination, and the detainees were taken to the Gendarmerie Command for their procedures.
