Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando stated that a wall collapsed on the boat carrying 5 rescue workers, who were heading to the San Miguel region to rescue those trapped in flood waters and the workers, were caught in the flood waters in Philippines. Expressing that the rescuers lost their lives by drowning, Fernando said, ” They were living heroes who were helping save the lives of our countrymen amid this calamity.”
Residents of San Miguel, one of the areas most affected, climbed onto the roofs of their flooded houses, while many tried to reach safe areas in the waist level waters. More than 74 thousand people in total were evacuated to safe areas. While fishing activities were stopped in Quezon province, official and educational institutions were closed. Flights and ferry services were canceled in areas affected by the typhoon.
