51 Dead in Bangladesh Monsoon Floods

The death toll from severe monsoon floods and landslides in Bangladesh has climbed to 51, affecting more than a million people across the nation. Relentless heavy rains have devastated several regions, forcing thousands to abandon their destroyed homes for government-run shelters, including in the capital of Dhaka. The hardest-hit area is Cox’s Bazar—a region currently sheltering numerous Rohingya Muslim refugees—where 28 of the fatalities occurred. In response to the escalating crisis, authorities have swiftly evacuated high-risk zones and postponed regional exams. While the river-dense country frequently experiences annual monsoons, experts warn that climate change is making these seasonal storms increasingly frequent and intense.
