An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 occurred 44 kilometers southwest of the city of Khost, located in the east of the Afghanistan, local sources stated. According to initial reports, 950 people were killed and hundreds were injured in the Barmal, Ziruk, Naka and Gayan regions of Paktika province, which were most affected by the earthquake. At least 90 houses have been destroyed and dozens of people have been trapped under rubble in Paktika.
“Four regions of Paktika province were shaken by a severe earthquake, hundreds of our citizens lost their lives and were injured, dozens of houses were destroyed. We call on all aid organizations to send teams to the region immediately,” a Taliban spokesman Bilal Karimi said. The earthquake was also felt in India, Pakistan’s capital city of Islamabad, and the eastern province of Punjab and its surroundings.
