A 6.5-magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of about 188 kilometers, 40 kilometers southeast of Jurm, located in Badakhshan province in the northeast part of Afghanistan. Six people lost their lives, and 120 people were injured. Most of the injuries were caused by stampedes that occurred out of panic.
In addition to Afghanistan and Pakistan, the earthquake was also felt in India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, but no loss of life or property has been reported from these countries yet.
