A 6.8-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Mindanao Island in the south of the Philippines at 16:14 local time. The powerful jolt, recorded 34 kilometers southwest of Sarangani town at a depth of 72 kilometers, was felt strongly in many regions close to the island, including General Santos, South Cotabato and Davao del Sur cities. No deaths or injuries were reported.
The Philippines, located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, is one of the countries most affected by earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.
