With 6 new eruptions recorded yesterday at Popocatepetl Volcano in Mexico, the number of eruptions this year has increased to 179. According to the daily report published by Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED), 156 gas and ash eruptions have been recorded at Popocatepetl Volcano throughout the day.
Authorities stated that the explosive activity in the volcano will continue on a medium scale and warned citizens living in the surrounding settlements to take precautions against possible ashfall and not to approach more than 12 kilometers from the volcano’s crater.
Popocatepetl Volcano, which has been on the rise for over a year, ranks fifth among volcanoes that are expected to massively erupt in the next few years, according to University of Manchester scientists.
