6-year-old boy rescued from rubble 2 days after earthquake in Indonesia

The death toll from Tuesday’s 5.6-magnitude earthquake in Indonesia’s West Java region has risen to 271 people, with 2,043 injured. Azka Maulana Malik, a 6-year-old boy, was rescued from the rubble two days after the earthquake. Azka, who was found under the rubble next to her grandmother, was taken to the Cianjur hospital. “We found him on the bed at home,” said Jeksen, 28, a search and rescue volunteer. “The pillow protected the boy, who was stuck in a 10-centimeter gap between the concrete slab and the wall. It was a very narrow and dark space with no small space for him to get air,” he stated.

The boy reportedly lost his parents in the earthquake.
