7.2 Magnitude Earthquake in Peru Triggers Tsunami Warning

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck 8 kilometers west of Atiquipa, south of Lima, Peru. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake at a depth of 28 kilometers and issued a tsunami warning for potential waves of 1 to 3 meters along some Peruvian coasts. There is no tsunami threat to US shores. The Peruvian government is closely monitoring the situation and assessing possible damage, but no casualties have been reported.
