7.6-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan

Japan was struck by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake, followed by eight aftershocks, the magnitudes of which ranged from 4.3 to 5.2. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake occurred in Ishikawa prefecture at 16.10 local time and was felt in Niigata, Toyama, Fukui, Nagano, and Gifu prefectures, as well as the capital Tokyo and its surroundings.

Authorities stated the earthquake could cause waves exceeding 5 meters in length and called on residents living in coastal areas to take shelter on high floors.
