While many buildings in Hatay were demolished in the 7.7 earthquake centered in Kahramanmaraş in Türkiye, historical buildings were also affected by the earthquake. The 7th-century Habibi Neccar Mosque, one of Anatolia’s earliest known mosques, was demolished. The historical public bath, Yeni Hamam, located near the mosque, was also severely damaged in the earthquake.
Additionally, the Habibi Neccar Mosque and its minaret, which were damaged in previous earthquakes, were renovated many times.
