8th international ice climbing held in turkey

The 8th International Emrah Özbay Ice and Rock Climbing event, held in Turkey’s Erzurum, has ended. The public interest was high in the event, where athletes climbed 300 meters high ice waterfalls for a week. 16 professional mountaineers from 7 countries participated in the event organized by Erzurum Governorship and İzmir Dokuz Eylül University. The climbing took place in Tortum and Uzundere in memory of Emrah Özbay, a Dokuz Eylül University graduate and Turkish Mountaineering National Team Athlete and Turkish Mountaineering Federation Coach who died in an accident in 2014.

The waterfalls named ‘Dokuz’ and ‘Eylül’ were discovered last year in Cevizli Village of Uzundere district, named after Dokuz Eylül University.
