Tragedy struck in Colombia as an MI-17 helicopter, part of an operation against the “Gulf Clan” drug cartel, crashed in Santa Rosa, Bolivar region. The Colombian army confirmed the loss of all 9 soldiers on board during the mission. The helicopter’s communication failure with the base preceded the crash near Santa Rosa municipality. President Gustavo Petro expressed deep sorrow over the soldiers’ deaths. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
