Tens of thousands of people lined the streets on Monday to watch the 134th Rose Parade, Southern California’s most famous annual New Year’s celebration event. The event is famed for its stunning, brilliantly crafted floats in a variety of shapes and colors. This year’s parade includes 39 floral-covered floats, 16 equestrian groups, and 21 marching bands from around the world.
The Rose Parade, which is usually an iconic New Year’s Day tradition, has been pushed back by one day this year to adhere to the event’s “Never on Sunday” custom, which has been in place since 1893.
