On April 26, a massive fire broke out at the Bhalswa landfill site located north of capital city of New Delhi, India. Fire department officials stated that 13 firefighters had been trying to take the fire under control for more than 15 hours. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai released a statement after the incident and told that he has asked the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to submit a report on the fire within 24 hours. After the flames and smoke spread over a wide area, the people of the region began to have difficulty breathing.
