Afghanistan resumes passport distribution

Afghanistan began distributing passports to its citizens again on Tuesday, officials in Kabul passport department and ministry of interior said. Following the collapse of the previous government on August 15, like many other government departments, country’s passport department stopped operating for a few months. Acting head of Kabul passport department Alem Gul Haqqani said in a press conference that apart from Kabul, the department has resumed distributing passport to Afghan citizens in the provinces across the country.

Around 25 thousand passports are currently ready to be distributed as many as 170 thousand people have applied online for issuance of new passports since the beginning of Islamic Emirate governance. Passports and national ID’s will be provided to applicants with physically identical documents issued by the previous government according to Sayeed Khosti an official from country’s ministry of interior.
