African Union became a permanent member of G20

At the G20 Leaders Summit held in New Delhi, it was officially announced that the African Union became a “permanent member” of the G20. In his speech at the opening of the first session of the day, which was held with the theme of “One Family”, Indian President Narendra Modi announced that the African Union, which has 55 member countries, is now one of the permanent members of the G20.

“Honoured to welcome the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 Family. This will strengthen the G20 and also strengthen the voice of the Global South,” said Modi on his official X account.
