Aliyev and Vucic Strengthen Azerbaijan-Serbia Strategic Ties in Belgrade

 

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev met Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade, Serbia, during an official visit and co-chaired the Azerbaijan-Serbia Strategic Partnership Council. The two leaders said bilateral trade has increased 16-fold since 2012 and pledged deeper cooperation in politics, economy and energy.

Aliyev announced plans to expand natural gas exports to Serbia and said Azerbaijan aims to add 8 gigawatts of energy capacity by 2032, much of it for export to Europe. The sides also signed a memorandum on building a gas turbine power plant and boosting cooperation in several sectors.
