Andy Burnham Set to Become UK Prime Minister

Member of Parliament Andy Burnham has been declared the new leader of the ruling Labour Party following the resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Popularly known as the “King of the North” for his previous role as Mayor of Manchester, Burnham is scheduled to formally take over the premiership on Monday, July 20th. His ascension follows heavy local election losses for the party, which has trailed Reform UK in opinion polls for the past 18 months. As the nation’s seventh prime minister in a turbulent decade, Burnham has promised to urgently address the cost-of-living crisis and decentralize power away from London through a “Northern Prime Ministry.”
