Anger over new law grows in Georgia: 50 protestors detained

Protests in front of Georgia’s parliament building in Tbilisi intensified after a proposed draft law on “transparency of foreign influence” was approved. The demonstrators tried to set fire to the building, threw stones, broke windows, and damaged the barriers.

According to a statement released by the Georgian Interior Ministry, “66 protesters were arrested during the rally in front of the Parliament building, and about 50 police officers were hurt, with several requiring surgery. Protesters used violence beyond the law for freedom of expression and peaceful demonstration. Police sometimes had to use force.”
