The trial of Shinji Aoba, who set fire to the Kyoto Animation Studio (KyoAni) in Kyoto, Japan, on July 18, 2019, causing the deaths of 36 people and injuring 32 people, has been concluded at the Kyoto District Court today. Contrary to the claims, he was of sound mind at the time of the crime and therefore will be held criminally responsible, said Judge Keisuke Masuda. Shinji Aoba was sentenced to death for arson and attempted murder.
Aoba said he attacked the studio on the grounds that they had used a novel of his without permission.
