Antalya Residents Struggle with Narrow Passage Amid Urban Renewal Project

In Antalya’s Balbey District, residents facing restricted access due to Urban Renewal Project barriers have resorted to a narrow 34-centimeter passage between houses to reach the street. However, this makeshift route poses challenges for elderly and overweight individuals. The closure of garden gates amid the Balbey Urban Renewal Project, ongoing for 3-4 months, has inconvenienced locals. Meryem Sekin, onbe of the residents in the area, highlighted the difficulties, stating, “Passing through is arduous; even opening an umbrella is impossible in the rain, causing clothing damage. We urgently need a solution.”

The closure of garden gates, a long-standing access point, has sparked frustration among three households. Those navigating the tight passage urge for easier access, emphasizing the longer route through the back of their houses, especially challenging for the elderly and causing issues for emergency services’ entry due to narrow streets.
