People gathered at the Museumplain to protest against government-imposed lockdown measures to curb the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, despite the municipality’s ban on a demonstration in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Police intervened in protests to disperse the crowd. Dutch authorities previously sent out an urgent appeal to demonstrators not to come to Amsterdam.
The Netherlands enforced a hard lockdown from 19 December 2021 until at least 14 January 2022.
