Armed Group Heading Presidential Palace in Chad Neutralized

A group of armed attackers heading towards the Presidential Palace in Encemine, the capital of Chad, were neutralized by security forces yesterday after some gunshots were heard nearby. More than one of the attackers, described by the Chadian press as Boko Haram militants, were killed, while others were captured alive.

“I am currently in the presidential palace, where the situation is under control. There is nothing to worry about. It was a minor incident. It is not a big deal,” Chad’s Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah said.

The attack was interpreted as a coup attempt.

Chad held legislative and municipal elections on December 29, 2024.
