After the arrest of Ovidio Guzman, the son of drug lord Joaquin Guzman, nicknamed El Chapo, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, cartel members terrorized many cities in Mexico. So far, 7 police officers were injured in the clashes.
At Culiacan Airport, a plane belonging to Aeromexico Airlines was hit by gunfire just before takeoff. Aeromexico Airline announced that the aircraft’s hydraulic systems were damaged and the flight was cancelled. Upon the incident, Culiacan Airport management announced that all commercial and general aviation flights were suspended and the airport was closed to transportation.
Sinaloa Cartel leader Guzman was captured by Mexican federal security forces on October 17, 2019, but was released due to threats against the civilian population by armed members of the cartel.
