at least 106 killed in Brazilian flash floods and landslides

The number of people killed in the flood and landslide disaster caused by heavy rains in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco has risen to 106, with the search for 10 people still ongoing, Pernambuco state government announced.

State Governor Paulo Camara stated that the priority was to find those who died in landslides and flood waters, adding, “We will not stop until we find all of the missing.” At least 24 municipalities in Pernambuco declared a state of emergency, and over 6,000 people were displaced or forced to flee their homes.

According to the National Civil Defense, a flood warning has been issued for Pernambuco, including the state capital Recife.
