Avalanche in India Kills 8, 46 Workers Rescued

A 60-hour rescue operation in India’s Uttarakhand state has concluded after an avalanche buried workers in the Himalayas.

Rescue teams, using drones and helicopters, located steel containers where 54 workers were trapped. The Indian army confirmed that 46 workers were pulled out alive, while eight were found dead. Survivors were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The avalanche struck on February 28, burying workers involved in a highway widening project. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised the teams for their efforts in harsh conditions.
