An avalanche hit Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula over the weekend, trapping two members of an 11-person skiing group. The Russian Ministry of Emergencies reported that despite rescue efforts, the lifeless body of a 44-year-old woman buried in the avalanche was recovered. Forty people were involved in the challenging search for a missing 19-year-old, conducted under severe weather conditions of strong winds and heavy snowfall. Sadly, the young skier was found lifeless this morning. Nine individuals evacuated by the ministry’s Mi-8 helicopter were reported to be in good health.
