baby elephant enjoys mud bath during mass migration of elephants

The elephants in the forest in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture of China’s Yunnan province left their habitats and reached Kunming on June 2 after traveling about 500 kilometers. Authorities had been following this migration for more than a month, and they assigned security forces to accompany the elephant herd. A baby elephant was seen taking a mud bath during the crossing.

Thanks to intensified protection efforts, the state’s elephant population has grown from 193 in the 1980s to 300 as of today.
