Baby Storks Return to Turkish Village After 41 Years

For the first time in 41 years, the rural Gökçealan District in Türkiye, now part of İzmir’s Selçuk since 1975, celebrated the birth of baby storks. The Ecosystem Protection and Nature Lovers Association (EKODOSD), together with local residents, took action when a pair of storks returned to the area after four decades and attempted to build a nest on a high-voltage pole. To ensure the storks’ safety, EKODOSD President Bahattin Driver and the community constructed a new nest platform on a safer power pole. The storks successfully moved to their new home and welcomed four baby storks, bringing the joy of new life to Gökçealan for the first time in over four decades.
