Bangladesh is holding general elections for the first time since the July 2024 student uprising that forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee. More than 127 million voters are choosing among 1,981 candidates for 299 parliamentary seats, while overseas citizens can vote by post for the first time.
The main race is led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party under Tariq Rahman after the Awami League was banned. Voters are also deciding on a constitutional reform package, and results are expected to be announced Friday.
