Barbados has ended its ties with Queen Elizabeth II nearly after 400 years to become a republic. A stunning ceremony was held in the capital Bridgetown at night to celebrate the republic after 55 years of independence under the Queen’s reign. Thousands attended the military parade that was held in the Heroes Square. Prince Charles was invited to transition ceremony, “The creation of this republic offers a new beginning. From the darkest days of our past and the appalling atrocity of slavery, which forever stains our history, the people of this island forged their path with extraordinary fortitude.” Charles said.
Rihanna also has attended the ceremony, where she was declared a national hero of the newborn republic by the Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley. Dame Sandra Mason was sworn in as the President at the ceremony, and has become the first President of Barbados.
