Barcelona Metro Fire Prompts Mass Evacuation

An electrical fire on a Barcelona metro line forced passengers to evacuate through a smoke-filled tunnel, sending 39 people to local hospitals. Commuters manually forced open emergency doors and navigated a 200-meter underground trek using only their mobile phone lights due to the dense smoke. Emergency Medical Services reported a total of 129 minor injuries during the chaotic escape. Fire department technical chief Sebastia Massaguer confirmed the blaze was successfully extinguished and the tunnels were fully ventilated. Transport authorities announced that train services have now returned to normal while an investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
