beacons lit across the world to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee

More than 3,500 beacons have been lit in the UK and overseas territories to mark the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. The Queen lit the beacon at Windsor Castle during the event. A symbolic globe showing the Commonwealth countries was used to light the jubilee beacon at the Queen’s event. The Queen’s grandson, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, lit the Platinum Jubilee beacon at Buckingham Palace. Then, the song “A Life Lived with Grace” was performed by voice artist Gregory Porter as a special part of the celebrations.

Buckingham Palace announced that the 96-year-old Queen will not attend the Thanksgiving service, which is scheduled to take place at St Paul’s Cathedral tomorrow, as a continuation of the celebrations.
