Belgrade Protests Over Election Manipulation Turn Violent

Peaceful protests in Belgrade following recent elections turned turbulent as opposition members, part of the “Serbia Against Violence” movement, marched demanding new elections, alleging manipulation by the ruling party. Attempts to enter the parliament resulted in clashes with police using tear gas, leading to the detention of at least 35 protesters.

In response to the unrest, President Aleksandar Vucic addressed the nation, reassuring citizens and denouncing the violence, asserting control to safeguard democracy. Allegations of election manipulation, including claims of transporting voters from Bosnia-Herzegovina, persist amid denials from Vucic, labeling them as baseless.
