Berlin Protest over Merz’s Deportation Remarks

About 1,800 people rallied in Berlin against German Chancellor Friedrich Merz after he called the city’s image “problematic” and backed deportations. Protesters accused him of echoing far-right views and held banners condemning racism.

Opposition parties demanded an apology, calling Merz’s comments “dangerous,” while a government spokesperson said his remarks reflected policy changes on immigration.
