Bodies of Tortured Captives in Assad’s Prisons Come to Light

The bodies of those tortured by regime soldiers in Sednaya and other underground prisons that were seized by the opposition after the overthrow of the Assad regime in Syria were brought to the Damascus Hospital morgue. It was determined that some prisoners had died recently as a result of torture, while some bodies were missing body parts. Photographs of the deceased were pasted on the walls outside the hospital building so that their families could identify them.

“My relatives are in prison. I am looking for them. They killed 9 of my relatives. They killed 250 people in prison this Friday morning as well,” said Ahmed Hamdani, who stated that he spent 2 years in prison and was later released.

“I was released from prison on Friday. I have been tortured for a year. My crime was possessing dollars. I was in Adra Prison; there was torture there just like everywhere else,” said a Syrian.

According to a doctor at the hospital, a prisoner who was released from Sednaya Prison was blackmailed with their family after giving an interview to an anti-regime channel in a foreign country and forced to return to Syria and was found dead in the prison.

A former regime soldier, who stated that he escaped from the army due to Assad’s oppression of the people and was later caught and sent to prison to be tortured for years, said that they wanted Assad to be executed and that they wanted this request to be announced to the whole world.
