An Arik Air Boeing 737-700 carrying 80 people made an emergency landing in Benin, Nigeria, after an explosion was heard from its left engine shortly after takeoff from Lagos. The aircraft had departed from Murtala Muhammed Airport bound for Omagwa.
The airline said the crew diverted the plane to Benin Airport following the loud blast and confirmed that all passengers and crew disembarked safely without injuries. Images shared on social media showed visible damage to the aircraft’s left engine.
