Bomb attack on political party offices in Iraq

A bomb planted in the Iraqi political party the Progress Party’s, which headed by Sunni Muslim politician and Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mohamed Al-Halbousi, Al-Adhamiyah office located in the Iraq’s capital city of Baghdad, exploded in night hours. It was reported that the explosion caused material damage, and the Iraqi security forces found a second unexploded bomb after they arrived to the scene. Meanwhile, the second bomb was defused by experts. In the statement released by the party, the attack was strongly condemned and it was stated that the attack was carried out by illegal groups. “The attack coincides with the successful period of our movement, together with its partners in Iraq, to create a safe and prosperous country without armed militias,” Progress Party said.

On the other hand, the office of the Azm Party, led by another Sunni Muslim politician Khamis al-Khanjar, in Baghdad’s Al-Yarmouk district was also subjected to a similar attack. It was reported that the attack caused only material damage.
